80th birthday booklet invitations
Tuesday, April 1, 2014
Our family recently celebrated my dad’s 80th birthday with a Oaxacan-themed dinner in Healdsburg. The photo-booklet invitations were a beautiful & practical way to honor my father, an avid Franco-phile and world traveler. Eighty full years distilled into 12 pages. The booklets included little vignettes and snapshots of all the family & friends in attendance. Here are sundry snaps of the finished invitations, booklets and assembly process. The letterpress booklets were hand-stitched with waxed linen twine.
Pictured below is the invitation, a snapshot of my parents on one of their many journeys to Mexico. Originally a slide photograph–which I scanned & then giclée printed (I love the matte effect of giclée printing on fine art paper). And the final step, handprinted letterpress hot pink type.
Each envelope was calligraphed by Nancy Hopkins, calligrapher extraordinaire….the icing on the cake.
Happy Birthday Dad! ♥
